Freedom of The Press: Updated
Monday, 24th November, 2008 at 4:50 pm, Isle of Wight
Quick update following our posting Does Freedom of the Press Matter?
We had a good meeting with Isle of Wight Chief Executive Steve Beynon this morning to discuss how VentnorBlog and the Council can work together in the future.
He came across as fair, reasoned and balanced.
We were left with the distinct impression that things could come together now that he’s in possession of the sequence of events from our perspective.
We’ll keep you informed.

Great illustration! Would those railings represent the Council Press Office, by any chance? :-)

The watchdog status of any media outlet should be able to regulate, when the authority no longer can do so, as seen recently with a world government that doesn’t regulate fiscal policies.

I don’t suppose SB explained what caused your excommunication in the first place? I’ve assumed all along that the Press Office didn’t like their version of council news being open to scrutiny, so I hope their new ‘openness’ doesn’t come with strings attached. If so, I would have nothing to do with it.
