Don’t miss the opportunity to influence the council’s spending plans.
The IOW Council wishes to consult with the Island communities and extends an invitation to attend a focus group meeting on Wednesday 26th November 7-9 pm at County Hall, Newport.
This will be an opportunity to take part in discussions and put questions to a panel of councillors and officers. If you would like to attend please contact Pam Stamps (pam.stamps(at)iow.gov.uk).

Does this mean the council are talking to you now?

You mean they are going to take some notice? Forgive my cynicism but they don’t listen to their own councillors. Some will be fooled by the notion that they have a say though and it shows that we’re gearing up to election time.

I’d like to ask them how they intend to pay for their proposed school reforms, especially now that property prices have taken a dive. I wonder how much they expect to get for County Hall? It must be worth about 50p by now… :-)

With all the money they saved from not doing anything about Ryde theatre, they must have lots tucked away….Unless it was put in an Icelandic bank account perhaps? lol
I may be wrong but there is a lot of scaffold around the building at the moment just to paint the window frames? One would have thought the whole building could do with a lick while the expensive scaffold was in place. I believe Marriots are the contractors for this job.
Anyone got any more clues? I know another audit has just been done and the decision about the theatre’s future, once again lingers in the air.

“while the expensive scaffold was in place”
It’s all a bit fragile, so that has to stay until they’ve got the wallpaper up… :-)

They haven’t done the work at Shanklin Theatre either and they didn’t have any money in Iceland banks. All capital projects have been suspended at present, until decisions are made in January (I am led to believe).
Must be all those consultants they have spent the money on again. Members of the public can ask questions of the Audit committee but the next meeting isn’t scheduled to take place until 3/2/09.

“All capital projects have been suspended”
So where are all these new schools coming from? I know they’re hoping to get central government funding, but have they actually asked the Treasury lately?
If I had any money, I’d buy shares in Portakabin (and a scaffolding company)…
