Comment Record: BNP A Popular SubjectIt’s amazing what subjects get people talking.

Yesterday morning, we posted an article relating to the BNP records leak and were amazed that, within less than 25 hours, it had attracted 69 comments! Not to mention the 13 comments on the original posting about the leak … and they’re still continuing today.

This has got to be a record for VentnorBlog and it’s wonderful to see such lively debate take place.

The only other article to beat this in numbers of comments is the Maharaja Restaurant posting which can boast 79 comments, but they are spread over a period of 16 months.

Well after all the hullabaloo I though it was only right that I tried the Maharajah. I’m afraid I found it mediocre in every department. For example, they had just one small bottle of beer in stock and it wasn’t even Cobra! My regular haunt the Taste of the Raj in Blackheath (admittedly a bit of a schlep to go for a curry) consistently knocks it for six in every department – although the staff are convinced I’m somebody famous and treat me as such, which colours my judgement.

Usually they have Cobra and Kingfisher on tap.

They are not an outstanding Indian resteraunt, but they are good and the prices are excellent

My good lady and I have spent many a wonderful time at the Maharajah. I do not drink beer, but I can vouch for their lime and water for which they charge – nowt! Looking forward to Friday already.

Erm … slightly off topic fellas – wouldn’t you say? You could be adding to the mammoth 79 comments on the Maharaja posting, instead of discussing its merits here ;-)

Or just join in exactly the same subcontinental debate which is kicking off in our review of the Bahar, Cowes http://mattandcat.co.uk/reviews/index.php/2006/08/19/bahar

Come on VB readers, you know what to do(!)

Only slightly, Sal. Discussing our favourite Indian/Bangladeshi restaurant in a BNP thread seems rather apposite to me!

    Anything to annoy them… :-)

I have socialist values, an Atheist and a great believer in the writings and theories of Charles Darwin. I am not and never will be a member of the BNP. However I can relate to what the PM of Australia has said in the past.

Australian Prime Minister does it again!

This should be a world wide rule. If you want to move to any country and become part of that country…WELCOME, But if want to change anything in that new country you wish to live in …GOODBYE

It took a lot of courage for this man to speak what he had to say for the world to hear. The retribution could be phenomenal, but at least he was willing to take a stand on his and Australia’s beliefs. Yes, allow those that want to come, to come. But understand that if you want to go to a country not of your birth, you should expect to live by their rules and respect their ways of life. This doesn’t mean you have to give up yours. I think he explains it very well.

The whole world needs a leader like this!

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd – Australia

Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday to get out of Australia, as the government targeted radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks.

Separately, Rudd angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying he supported spy agencies monitoring the nation’s mosques. Quote:

‘IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT. Take It Or Leave It. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali , we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians.’

‘This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom.’

‘We speak mainly ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn our language!’

‘Most Australians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right wing, political push, but a fact, because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your
new home, because God is part of our culture.’

‘We will accept your beliefs, and will not question why. All we ask is that you accept ours, and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with us.’

‘This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs, or
Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great Australian freedom: ‘THE RIGHT TO LEAVE’.’

‘If you aren’t happy here then LEAVE. We didn’t force you to come here. You asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted.’

Maybe if we circulate this amongst ourselves, WE will find the courage to start speaking and voicing the same truths.
    ———–
It’s about time our Government had the guts to speak out so honestly.

The problem is Don that a vast majority of Muslims would agree with this and it is only the radicals that need removing, yet the majority get tarnished with the radical brush and it is difficult for officials to get involved without further ‘tarring that brush’

I agree they don’t do enough, but also appreciate what a difficult job it is.
