Oil Spill in Brading Causes Road Closures
Wednesday, 1st October, 2008 at 10:41 am, Isle of Wight
If you’re planning to head anywhere near Brading today – you’ll need to change your plans. Certainly for the next couple of hours anyway.
Apparently at 8am this morning, one lorry unfortunately lost a load of fuel outside the Post Office in the High Street and following that, a bus travellling from Brading to Shanklin discovered that it too, had been losing fuel on route.
The result is that it’s thought that at least 300 litres of fuel has gone into the drainage system, which the Environment Agency is trying to resolve.
In addition, there have been a number of car accidents as drivers having travelled through the fuel spills have lost control and collided with other cars – luckily there are no reports of serious injury.
We understand that the road between Brading and Yaverland Cross has been closed for the time being.
