Wroxall and Upper Ventnor Residents Invited to Forums

Wednesday, 3rd September, 2008 at 11:40 am, Isle of Wight

Community, Ventnor, Wroxall

Press release from Hampshire and IOW Constabulary

Police officers and partner organisations are asking residents to continue playing an important part in keeping the Isle of Wight a safe place to live.

Two Community Engagement Forums are being held for the Upper Ventnor and Wroxall areas next week.

People living in both areas can find out about the progress being made on solutions to the community’s top three priorities.

In Upper Ventnor, these were identified as anti-social behaviour, speeding, and criminal damage to cars, at the last forum held in February 2008.

Police officers from the South Wight Safer Neighbourhoods Team (SNT), and Community Support Officers (CSOs) from the Safer Neighbourhoods Partnership, will be at the forums to answer queries.

South Wight SNT Sergeant Richard Stapleton said:

“The South Wight Safer Neighbourhood Team continues to work hard to reduce crime and the fear of crime in our area. I am pleased to be able to tell the public we serve that compared to this time last year violent crime, crimes against vehicles and criminal damage are all down, making the South Wight area an even better place to live and work.”

Residents are invited to the latest forum for Upper Ventnor on Tuesday, September 9, at 7.00pm at Ventnor Middle School.

People in Wroxall can attend their latest follow-up forum at the village Community Centre on Thursday, September 11, at 7.00pm.

The last forum in Wroxall in September 2007 found speeding, underage drinking and older peoples perception of youth to be the top three priorities for residents.

Sgt Stapleton added:

“I’m receiving positive feedback from the community about the progress achieved in Wroxall. More children and teenagers are playing their part in making Wroxall a better place to live.”
