Cowes Week Partner for 2009?
Monday, 28th July, 2008 at 9:47 am, Isle of Wight
Stuart Quarrie, CEO Cowes Week Limited has issued a statement this morning thanking Skandia for their support over the past 14 years.
We thought that there may be a clue hidden in the release, as to who would be taking over the sponsorship of one of the most famous sailing events in the World.
But sadly, we’re told that although negotiations are going well with a potential sponsor, no news will be released until after Cowes Week.
Here’s what Stuart had to say about Skandia
Skandia has been a fantastic partner to Cowes Week for 14 years and has worked hard with us to develop the regatta, and Cowes, in so many positive ways. A heart-felt thank you goes out to Skandia, and we will enjoy celebrating all that has been achieved during our 14-year relationship with them at this year’s regatta.

I know that everyone is disappointed that Cowes Week are parting company with Skandia but 14 years is a number of lifetimes for brand sponsorship! Both sides have benefited from the arrangement and I just hope that the Cowes Week people can secure a new sponsor in this difficult economic climate.

EG, you’re absolutely right – Skandia showed great trust in Cowes Week to keep sponsoring it for so long. You can understand it being time to move on. The negotiations with a new sponsor sound positive, I think they just don’t want to let the cat outta the bag just yet. I’m sure it’ll all work out fine post Cowes Week.
