Wimpy on The Isle of White?
Wednesday, 16th July, 2008 at 2:26 pm, Isle of Wight
Just spotted this great image on Matt and Cat’s Isle of Wight Eating Out Guide at the end of their review of Wimpy in Ryde.

It’s hard to understand how the Post Office got it wrong last year with their stamps, but even more confusing that those working in the restaurant wouldn’t have noticed by now and suggested it be changed?

Just to give everyone a bit more background on the Wimpy franchise, it was bought by the American chain Burger King a few years ago with the intent to move them all over to the BK branding and menu. However a group of UK franchisees refused to co-operate and eventually bought the Wimpy brand and rights from BK. At the time they ‘objected’ to the higher costs and standards that would be expected of being a BK franchise. A chain that seems to be stuck in the mid Atlantic, not quite American and still 50s England at heart.

Wish the Wimpys were BK here…one less reason to go back to London

I quite like them the way they are, really. As Matt & Cat point out, “as with anything slightly out-of-date, you can be sure to find a good supply on the Isle of Wight”.
I wouldn’t mind a BK as well, though. Anything to puncture Ronald McDonald’s annoying ego!

Is there any truth in the rumour that they’ve been eating too much of their own stock and that’s why they’d not noticed?

Is it the white as in white and not wight you think is odd or the statement that they are only available during business hours?
