Steve Beynon As New Chief Executive For the IW?

We were literally just about to publish this story below to announce that Steve Beynon was going for the position of Chief Exec of the IW Council …. when we were told the CP had the details (based on the councils press release, we assume) of the next Chief exec role … as Steve Beynon!
More soon, but until then here’s the article we were going to run …
Item 6 on the agenda for the Full Council meeting next Wednesday relates to the vacancy for Chief Executive for the Isle of Wight.
6. APPOINTMENT OF A NEW CHIEF EXECUTIVE
To consider the recommendation from the Appointments Panel
As reported in the CP today, Director of Adult Services, Sarah Mitchell is one of the applicants for the top role. We heard this rumour last week but forget to share it with you, dear reader.
We have also heard that the other internal applicant is none other than the man who presented Pugh and Wells with the three fabulous options for school reforms, Director of Children’s Services, Steve Beynon!
BTW, good to see we’ve got such a high result on Google for “Steve Beynon”, being beaten only by the EduWight Web site.
Update: Steve Beynon has accepted the offer of the role, but it still has to be ratified by the Full Council next week.

I am totally stunned by this news. Can’t believe it. He doesn’t even live on the Island – it’s Joe Duckworth all over again – My prediction is that he’ll get a large relocation fee and then bugger off after two years.

This story was broken by Big Al and The Doc this morning. Friday 11th July. A County Hall insider told us, they were not best pleased on hearing the news.

David it was on the CP website before Al mentioned it on air, so Ross Findon wins the prize for breaking the story, and I think we were just publishing (12.54) our piece about it when Alex mentioned it on air.

Looking back on our data logs, it appears that we were alerted at 12:49:46 (roughly) by others the the CP had the story up (well done Ross). I think the CP may have had it up as early as 12:29.
I think you were talking about it at about 12:54, so you defo beat us (we let out a collective groan when we heard you talk about it, as we were just about to publish our piece). Still not sure how we slipped back in to listening to Alex’s show again!

Ah well, our County Hall insiders told us a few minutes earlier, to be honest only just beating the press release. We’ll tell them to be a bit quicker next time!
