MP in stitches over ‘Morsbags’Fantastic to see Island MP, Andrew Turner, embracing green issues again. He was spotted last week behind a sewing machine making his very own Morsbag.

Last week, the held an exhibition in Westminster promoting their ‘Stitch in Time’ campaign.

Over 21,000 Morsbags have been made since January 2007 – many of which were sewn in Bembridge, Ventnor, Wotton and Newport.

In fact the organisers told Andrew Turner that the groups on the Wight are some fo the most active in the UK.

During the exhibition in Parliament, Morsbags gave away 1,000 of their bags – helping to spread the word amongst elected members.

Mr Turner said:

“I knew many of my constituents had been busy making bags so when I saw there was an opportunity to make one for myself I took it. My bag has a colourful design, featuring jungle animals. I must admit, however, that my sewing skills leave a little to be desired given that I actually managed to bend the needle and stab myself with it. I may try to be environmentally-conscious but a tailor I am not!”

He went on to say:

“I think what Morsbags is doing is highly commendable. It is a practical solution to a growing environmental problem, not to mention a lot of fun. I only hope that others see the benefits and get their sewing machines out.”

pending gender reassignment. i’m unable to verify this info – so anyone wanting to attend should check up beforehand.
