Quay Arts presents Still Moments, by Island Artist Eric Geddes.

Still Moments: Eric Geddes @ QuaySpread over three galleries, this extraordinary exhibition brings together an unprecedented range of work by Eric Geddes, marking the 30 years of his career.

Revealing the breadth and direction of Geddes’ most recent work, the works are given meaningful context by photographic archive material, video, documentary and journals from the artist’s career.

By charting significant and developing themes, the exhibition provides an opportunity to reassess the range of Geddes’ achievements and the scale and complexity of his work.

Geddes is a British sculptor, photographer and film maker living on the Isle of Wight. He is inspired by and works predominantly on the island’s shorelines.

His site specific work involves the use of natural and found objects, either indigenous [stone, clay, seaweed] or flotsam [wood, metal, plastic].

The sculptures involve minimum use of tools, relying on placing, stacking, and wedging to achieve balanced forms, in which the fragility and impermanence are an intrinsic part of their vitality and significance.

Given its ephemerality, the work has been documented photographically and in journals, where a record is kept of its making. Recently, the artist has made short video works [5-10 min in length], which record construction, the interaction and destruction of sculptures by the tide, or reflections on the mutability of life and memory.

Where Still Moments evokes memory and mood, this Rope Store Gallery exhibition will be focused on the development of gallery sited works and will recreate elements of Geddes’ studio
