Chris Packham Becomes Dragon Patron

Business, Charity, Education, Newport

Fantastic news reaches us this morning that St George’s PMLD School is Newport has just announced that TV presenter Chris Packham, has agreed to become a patron of Dragon.

What better day to make the announcement than on St George’s Day.

Chris said today

“I’m delighted to be asked to support Dragon by being a patron, St George’s is a terrific school full of superb kids.

You have to understand the importance of this project, it has all sorts of possibilities for the way we teach our kids in the future, it’s not just important for the Isle of Wight but also nationally. I visit a lot of schools each year, too many to mention in fact, but I’ve not come across another school project like this….it really is very exciting!

Now, I really want to see Dragon receive the attention it deserves. For a any school to take on an ambitious scheme like this would be a bold move, but you must remember that St George’s is a school for children with complex learning problems and that makes the whole thing all the more incredible.

My hope is that by officially showing my own interest in Dragon and by offering my help, it will spur on potential partners and funders to come on board and help too. Dragon clearly shows the kind of belief and confidence that head teacher Sue Holman has in her staff and in the students of her school, the move they’re making towards a new kind of creative teaching shows real innovation and they are going to need help to fulfil the brief and the very high standards they have set themselves. I for one intend to help them however I can to make the project a success and I sincerely hope that businesses, funders and other individuals will follow me.”

Dragon is a pay to use service available to other schools. Through the project, students at St George’s get to flex and develop their business skills from management to maintenance from IT to PR. This gives them the opportunity t gain real experience of business and life in the wor place at every level.

There is a fantastic gig lined up in June to promote the work of Dragon and raise awareness for this wonderful project. Make sure you put this one in your diaries as it’s going to be a ball!
