Charter Mark Means Great Service for the Public
Monday, 11th February, 2008 at 9:31 am, Isle of Wight
The excellent customer service provided to the public by the IW Council’s Environmental Health and Office Services Teams has seen staff retain their coveted Charter Mark.
The award by the Cabinet Office demonstrates the team’s commitment to customer services in listening to customer; needs, acting upon their views and effectively delivering services. The Charter Mark was retained following a positive re-assessment on Monday 28 and Tuesday 29 January.
Assessor David White said the department had made excellent progress in its first year of Charter Mark, reducing the number of partial compliances with the 63 award criteria from 15 to just seven.
Mr White said: “Staff felt empowered to make decisions within their abilities and worked in a no-blame culture.
“Staff were very competent and customer-focussed. The team is excellent in consulting with customers, partners and staff on many different issues.”
IW Council director of environment and neighbourhoods, Stuart Love said: “The particularly pleasing thing about this Charter Mark is that is reflects the excellent service being offered to IW residents.”
Diana Tuson, IW Council cabinet member for Safer Communities, said: “I congratulate the staff for their efforts. Not only are they the only team currently in the council to achieve this prestigious recognition, I know they have worked tremendously hard to retain it.”

It is heartening to hear of a team within the council who are actually performing to Charter Mark Standards and for having:
“Staff were very competent and customer-focussed. The team is excellent in consulting with customers, partners and staff on many different issues.”
Perhaps one day the Planning Team will achieve a similar accolade, although I would not hold my breath.
Congratulations to all in EH & OS
