The Black Hole
Friday, 8th February, 2008 at 10:07 am, Isle of Wight
Seeing a photo in the County Press today of the hole in Gills Cliff Road, reminded us of our walk up there on Monday when we took some photos.
The initial hole didn’t look like much, but once the workman started to pull away the top layer, it revealed a huge cavity underneath.

The engineer who was sitting in the mini digger directly above the cavity, was in our view, a very brave man.

Anyone remember the one near the old postoffice in Newport Road – it was big enough for a bus to fall in?; or the one along the road to Whitwell; or the one near Trinity Church well over 30 years ago? This looks tiny in comparison. It shouldn’t take long to deal with. What would Ventnor be without its vents?
