Ventbag: Making Ventnor Plastic Carrier Bag Free

Monday, 28th January, 2008 at 5:29 pm, Isle of Wight

Eco-Island, Green Issues, Ventnor

Ventbag: Making Ventnor Plastic Carrier Bag FreeWe distributed 116 recycled fabric morsbags, they were very popular.

The RNLI received just over £48 in donations on top of their takings for all the goods sold today which we are delighted about.

It was lovely to talk to so many residents about Ventnor going Plastic Carrier bag free, I think everyone that we spoke to was 100% behind the idea.

It was great fun to do, we certainly surprised some people who were not expecting to see a couple of people sewing bags in a shop window!

We had a lot of fabric donated so that we can make more bags, we did get a couple of complaints from gentlemen who would of liked us to have made more plain bags, so if you have any suitable ‘man’ bag fabric you no longer need, please drop it off at the Ventnorian, Spring Hill.

The children’s bags also flew out the door, I wish we had of had more of them. We would like to thank the staff of the RNLI for letting us do it and being such wonderful hosts, they have asked us to do it again but it won’t be for a while yet as we need time to recover, saying that………

There will be a few more fabric bags available in the next week from the Ventnorian as Lesley is having a couple of sewing machines in the back of her shop and from Monday afternoon we will be going in and sewing bags there for the rest of the week. Anyone can go and sew a bag or two, if you have not made one we will be more than happy to give you a bit of help but the bags are very easy to make.
