Ventnor Christmas Parade: New Jersey, USA
Friday, 7th December, 2007 at 11:41 am, Isle of Wight
We’ve recently been in correspondence with members of the Ventnor City community in New Jersey, USA.
They’re big fans of VentnorBlog and have started their own community website called ‘We Love Ventnor’. There’s more to the story which will come later, but in the meantime, they have just had their Christmas Parade and sent us a link to a video of the event.
It is very much like our summer carnival, with plenty of brass bans, floats and cheerleaders. (video after the click)
It appears that our American namesakes also share other similar traditions, as I spotted a poster for the Annual Polar Bear Plunge on 1st January! Sounds just like our Boxing Day swim, although I suspect that their waters are far colder than our Ventnor Bay.
In the second half of the film, there are interviews and messages. Everybody looks incredibly happy and you get the feeling that there is great sense of community in Ventnor City.
