Inspectors Impressed At St Saviour’s Primary School
Friday, 23rd November, 2007 at 11:20 am, Isle of Wight
Ofsted inspectors have praised a West Wight school, describing it as being a ‘good school with outstanding features’.
St Saviour’s Catholic Primary was visited by the government school’s inspectorate at the start of November.
In the report, Ofsted recognises that children enter the school with skills and understanding that vary, but are usually above average for their age. By the time they leave, standards are well above average mainly due to the good level of teaching and the curriculum.
A supportive and caring learning atmosphere is created by the staff, and the personal development and well-being of students are outstanding. The school works closely with the local community and many parents think highly of St Saviour’s and what it offers to children. Lessons are lively and move learning along at a good pace.
The Headteacher provides first-rate leadership and is well supported by her staff. Strengths and weaknesses at the school are quickly identified through well established monitoring systems.
Margaret Young is Headteacher at St Saviour’s Primary and says ‘We are absolutely delighted with the report. It clearly recognises that staff, parents & governors of the school work together as a team, providing the best possible opportunities for our children. The inspector also conveyed to the staff that our school is a place where children genuinely cared for one another.”
Isle of Wight Council’s Cabinet member for Children and Young People Alan Wells said “This is a very good Ofsted report for St Saviour’s and reinforces the Isle of Wight’s reputation as having some of the best primary schools in the UK. I send my congratulations to all pupils, staff and parents”.
