6, August 2007to10, August 2007

Artist and basketmaker, Tim Johnson (remember his willow domes at Bestival?), will be leading a 5 day course of gathering, observation and making, as part of the 2007 Summer School at Quay Arts.

Tim Johnson Runs Nomadic Art WeekThe course will be based at Jubilee Stores, but there will be plenty of field trips to a variety of the Island’s natural environments and learn to identify and harvest useful materials for making activities – including painting, sculpture, basketmaking and ephemeral outdoor installations.

The week involves some walking each day and lots of stopping and looking – outdoor clothing and sturdy walking boots are recommended plus a desire to get closer to nature!

Tim Johnson (BA Fine Art & MA Sculpture) has been fascinated by the natural world around him since childhood. His keen eye and extensive natural history knowledge complement his own diverse practice – including basketmaking, painting, photography, installation and performance. Tim’s creative projects have lead him to work in Australia, Uzbekistan, Denmark, Canada and the USA, whilst closer to home he likes to take off to Scottish Islands whenever he can!

The five day course will set you back £165/£155. It runs every day between 10am and 4pm and starts on Monday 6th August.

If you’re interested in learning more about the course or want to sign up, call Quay Arts on 01983 822490.
