It’s that time of year again when the Ventnor Film Society present their film archive event.
Last year the Winter Gardens was full to capacity as we were treated to a wonderful archive of footage of the Island over the last 80 years.
This year expect some real beauties including ‘All Stations From Ventnor West’ - the story of the Island branch line that served Ventnor for 52 years before it closed in 1952.
Also spinning on the reels will be ‘02 At Havenstreet’ a film narrated by John Huntley and produced and directed by Bob Ennis portraying the Isle of Wight Steam Railway in it’s early days of development in 1986 and 1987.
There’ll be lots more to see, including extracts from ‘Captured on Cine’. Watch footage of carnivals in the 1950s, Cowes Week in 1929, a steam train journey from Ryde to Ventnor in 1960 and much more.
Finally, ‘Isle of Wight Calves’ made by the production unit of the Isle of Wight Amateur Cine Society and filmed at Newport House Dairy Farm, this film was first shown at the Guildhall, Newport 1948.
Tickets are priced at £7.50 (£6.50 concessionary) and available at any Tuesday film show at The Ventnor Winter Gardens.
