Take A Trip to The Tiffin Room

Wednesday, 14th June, 2006 at 4:06 pm, Isle of Wight

Food & Drink

tiffin room - bonchurch manor hotelLast Sunday the VentnorBlog family were treated to an afternoon of outstanding food, company and surroundings when we had lunch at The Tiffin Room in Bonchurch.

Based within the magnificent Bonchurch Manor Hotel, The Tiffin Room offers authentic South Indian cusine like you’ve never tasted before. We all agreed the food was totally amazing.

Laid before us on the table was a wonderful selection … yoghurt, green grapes and rice salad (a great complement to the spicier dishes); chicken in almond sauce; green beans sauteed in coconut; cabbage cooked in yoghurt and lentil sauce; or moon bean palya with coconut and coriander.

Shuba Rao, who not only is head chef, but manages to run the hotel too, uses only fresh organic island produce and all dishes are free from additives, artificial flavours or tinned products. The wine list is superb and they also stock ales from the Ventnor Brewery.

This is definitely NOT a balti house, so if you’re expecting chicken tikka massala, you’ll have to look elsewhere.

The Tiffin Room is open from Tuesday to Saturday 7.00 pm onwards. Booking is essential as it’s always busy. I heard recently that an Italian family chose to holiday on the island, just so they could sample the Tiffin Room menu. Quite an accolade.

Thanks Mark and Shuba for a wonderful afternoon, and also to Ananya and Dhyana for looking after Alpha so well … she hasn’t stopped humming the theme tune to the Italian Job since!
