You might remember last year reading about plans for a new Guide to the Isle of Wight, the focus being on what’s on offer for Kids.
Well, after many months of information gathering, the new guide, published by Brill Books, the publishing arm of registered charity Island 2000 Trust, is about to launch.
The content of the guide, for children and their families who visit the Island, has been written and illustrated by Island children and it’s launch takes place at Quay Arts on Saturday 12 July.
So what can you expect to find in this new guide?
Well, we’re told that it’s candid (should be interesting) as well as colourful and highlights places that Island children like to visit.
Expect to hear about many of the Isle of Wight Attractions, find out what our kids think of the beaches, where the best place to buy an ice cream is and what their ‘Dream Day’, come rain or shine would be.

It’s made up of poetry, drawings and ‘insider’ comments from over 200 Island children.
At the launch, there’s a chance to meet the Editorial Team of children age 6 to 12, who helped Island 2000 Trust, as well as designer Jonathan Ward, who put this fantastic book together.

That takes place at noon, but if you want to bring your kids along from 10am, they’ll have the chance to take part in the free drop-in ‘Put in on the Map’ and ‘My IOW’ book-making workshop.
The Children’s Guide to the Isle of Wight will be retailing at £5 and is available from Island Tourist Information Centres, many visitor attractions and the County Press shop (distribution by W J Nigh).

Well done to Jonathan and the team for a great launch on Saturday. Lots of fun had by all and the book looks fantastic.
We’ll have some podcasts coming out later in the week from the event, so keep your eyes peeled.
